Who we are:

Ebenezer Baptist Church -“Eb”- was originally established in 1907 at a time of revival in the Welsh valleys. The church lies at the heart of the Rhymney Valley in Caerphilly County Borough. It takes its name from the Old Testament – a rock where people could remember God’s goodness towards them:  “Then Samuel took a stone and set it up. He named it Ebenezer saying ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us.’” (1 Samuel 7:12)  Over 100 years later it is still Ebenezer, where we can say 'Thus far the Lord has helped us'. In 2007 it was extended and refurbished. It is now a modern centre of worship, providing full disabled access. It is a place where the Gospel of Christ is shared in words and actions. It also serves as a hub for a variety of community activities.

Ebenezer is pastored by Gareth Bowen & his wife Julia. They have each been a part of the fellowship here since the 1970s and were married in the church in 1991. As well as their Christian experiences and training, they have a wealth of experience between them in education, inclusion and social care.

What we believe:

The Bible defines Church as the Body of Christ here on Earth - it is the people, not the building - and He (Christ) is the head. The church broadly has three functions:

Column

1

To give praise, glory, honour to God (Father, Son & Holy Spirit), as our Creator and our Redeemer

Column

2

To build one another up within the body through ministry - encouraging, teaching etc - by everyone within the body doing their part,  - to prepare the church for works of service

Column

3

To do those works of service and so make a difference to the world in which we live, demonstrating the Gospel in which we believe, and bringing others to know this Gospel for themselves, understanding the reality of salvation and a personal walk with God

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

(Words spoken by Jesus to his disciples recorded in Matthew's Gospel Chapter 28)

Ebenezer is a member of the External link opens in new tab or windowEvangelical Alliance in Wales. For more than 165 years, the Alliance has been bringing Christians together and helping them listen to, and be heard by, the government, media and society. We believe the Church is the key to long-lasting change in our country - and that by working closely with local partnerships as well as other churches in the alliance, we can transform our communities with the good news of Jesus.

As a member of the Evangelical Alliance in Wales we agree with their Basis of Faith. Click External link opens in new tab or windowhereExternal link opens in new tab or window to find out more.
